Realizing Mass Timber’s Benefits: Key Design Decisions and Carbon Analysis
February 25 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm CST
- In Person
Regional In-Person Seminar (Frisco, TX)
What early decisions do project teams need to make to ensure a successful mass timber project? How are designers utilizing life cycle assessment (LCA) to compare the environmental performance of material and design alternatives? This presentation will cover both topics, from critical choices that optimize mass timber and avoid cost premiums to an in-depth look at biogenic carbon accounting and how designers can analyze wood products and buildings.
Topics will include:
- Construction types, fire ratings, column grids and beam/panel spans, acoustics, and MEP integration
- A look at completed mass timber projects illustrating the variety of viable options when navigating key early decisions
- Utilizing life cycle assessment (LCA) to compare the environmental performance of material and design alternatives, biogenic carbon accounting, and a discussion of end-of-life assumptions
The seminar will be held at the Offices at Southstone Yards and will include an optional building walk-through, lunch and Q&A.
